My Dream Job...

      I would like to be a biology engineer because my favourite subjects are maths, science and chemistry and also because I like to help people.

      In this job we do experiments to try to make different types of medication for the different diseases. For this job I need to work a lot and be extremely careful with the elements that I mix.

      My dream is to win a Nobel Prize in Medicine with the cure for a very dangerous disease!

Catarina Ferreira

      Hi! My name is Biel and I’m 14 years old. Along my life, I have had a lot of dream jobs. When I was 3 years old I wanted to be a dancer because I love to dance since I started walking.

      Since I was 12 years old until now my dream job is to be a dentist. I don’t know why but I really love this job, maybe because when I’m talking to people I like to look at their smile and see their teeth.

      Perhaps my parents are guilty about this because they are dentists and I like to listen to their conversations about teeth, it is very interesting!

Maria Gabriel Melo

      My dream job is being a lawyer because I like to protest, I can argue for or against any cause and I think I have a crush for law. I love the feeling of winning something, helping innocent people or being in front of a judge. It shows me what I really am, a fighter who fights for other people.

      But, there’s always a but … the country’s issues with money problems created this crisis so I decided to be a doctor, a surgeon, because being a doctor is helping them too. Maybe save lives, who knows? Feeling under pressure, feeling that we can make the difference. I want to make the difference not to the whole world, but to some people.

Ana Lima

      I would like to be a criminologist because I love to find out how crimes were committed and I would like to be connected with laws that deal with the crime. I would also like to investigate people, know more about some subjects and look for things in the crime scenes. Unfortunately, in Portugal that doesn’t exist a lot, so I’ll try medicine. I like kids too, so I would like to be a Pediatrician.

The technology in people's life

      Nowadays, people's lives depends of technology. Of course that technology is useful and as a lot of good things to offer but there are lots of bad things that really be harmful to people's life.

      In my opinion technology has more advantages than disadvantages because it opens our mind and gives us the chance to explore other cultures, other environments, other things, without experiencing them in 1st person. Technology provides us good and cheap things and we can be everywhere whenever we want and we can learn lots of new things.

      However, there are some cons such as the danger of internet, that can be very harmful to people. There are some more disadvantages such as the addiction to certain devices and the diseases that those devices can cause you such as cancer.

      To sum up technology is good and bad at the same time, but in my opinion it offers more good things than bad things. On balance, I feel that if you know how to use technology your life will be a lot better. If you don't know how to use it you won't have a job, and if you use it wrongly you can put your life in danger.

Travel Broaden the mind

      There are a number of ways that travel can broaden one's mind. One of my favourite is the opportunity to learn new languages.  Given that different cultures have widely varying views on what is important an how to go about living life, learning another languages can give inavaluable insight into these differences and hell to suggest alternatives to one's own view of life.

      Another way that travel can help to broaden one's mind is simply to humble a traveler. Given the difficulties that arise from not knowing a language or a situation where one needs help to get by, the traveler learns more about their own limitation and that help is often necessary.

      I think any exposure to differences from our own every day can do that, too travel certainly provides this. When we travel, we experience new and different things. We experience other ideas and other values we also see different social norms and different lifestyles. We also see different parts of the world and different sides of nature. Experiencing a different landscape or different activities can also broaden our minds. Travel allows us to experience new things as well as to know ourselves better. We might see something new in ourselves or discover new interests.

      It is also importante because it brings us into contact with people with different personalities and points of view. Travel can open one's mind to the cultures and situations around the globe. It is important to see and experience understanding of life outside our own. It can also make you more aware of those better or worse than with you. Infact, travelling can even inspire you to take up a new hobby, religion or culture!

Open a bar at school

   This report has the purpose to consider some advantages and disadvantages of constructing a school bar and make a recommendation to the director.

      There are some great advantages for the contruction of the bar:

         - Students that don't have breakfast at home would be able to eat at school;

         - It would be a space to socialize or wait untill the student's classes start;

         - Meals would be cheaper and healthier compared to the coffee-bar near school.

      Although, there are a few drawbacks in having a bar at school:

         - Students might want to stop going to the cantine and prefer eating croissants or some other snacks instead of a real meal.

         - It can be considered a distraction for students to miss the classes.

      We have pros and cons based on the idea of having a bar at the school but I think the advantages of it are stronger than the disadvantages. To sum up, I recommend the bar closure at lunch-time and a permanent vigilance of the students schedule by some school members.

Make people trust you...

Be nice and adopt yourself...

      Dare yourself to work a part-timer in a cafe or restaurant. Your empathy with people will grow and it will be easy to understand their minds foward.

       Working and studying at the same time is going to challenge you, between school, work and fun you will have to find a balance.

Ideas are exploding...

      Creative minds are rare, train yours to resolve problems in a very imaginative way. Join a theater club or to the scouts. Spending a bit of time doing drama and sleeping in the woods will certainly spare you some time in the future, ideas will blow your head up!

Studying abroad

      The aim of the report is to inform students about the pros and cons of studying abroad.

      There are some strong advantages of studying abroad, such as:

           - It will improve your self-confidence;

           - You will experience a different culture;

           - Studying abroad is a plus in the job market.

      There are also some disadvantages of studying abroad, such as:

           - Adapting to a different culture;

           - Language barriers;

           - Cost.

      In my opinion, studying abroad, provides a much better future to a student. Of course there are some disadvantages but the advantages overcome them. So if you have the opportunity to study abroad, just take it and don't think twice. You'll see that your future will be much better.

Internet revolution

          Twenty-first century is the home of internet revolution, it is now clear that this revolution will mark us as much as industrial revolution marked us many years ago. But are we prepared to be printed by these?

          Internet allowed us to improve in many ways in life, it erased distance as a problem, communication is now easier than ever and researching suffered a huge evolution. People don't need to go from library to library to find a document or a book.

          Also the huge amount of information that is gathered in internet offer cientists and inventors many resources to create new things.

          But where is our social spirit? The right answer maybe is that social spirit gave place to internet spirit. People depend on the internet and now, talking in social networks became easier than talking to someone on a date. People feel more uninhibited behind a computer than sitting face to face with someone.

          All in all, this mark is turning us smarter and it is improving our worls but it is also changing the way we interact with people.

Canterville's Ghost

By: Oscar Wilde

      I recently read “Canterville's Ghost”, a novel written in 1887 by Oscar Wilde. In 1891 it was included in a collection of tales titled “Lord Arthur Saville's Crime and other stories”. It has been adapted a number of times for the cinema and theater.

      It's set in England and it tells the story of Sir Simon Canterville, a ghost who has haunted the castle of his family and its inhabitants. His life undergoes a drastic change when an american diplomat Hinom B. Otis purchased the castle.

      The plot is very intricate with lots of twists and turns, which keep the reader turning the pages.

      To sum up, I enjoyed this novel/comedy. However, I'd only recommend it to people who really enjoy supernatural and/or comedy stories.

The Book of Tomorrow

By: Cecelia Ahern

         I recently read “The Book of Tomorrow”, a novel published in 2009 and written by Cecelia Ahern.

       It's set in Kilsaney, Ireland and it's the story of Tamara Goodwin that has always lived in the here and now, never giving a second thought to tomorrow. Until a travelling library arrives in her tiny village, bringing with it a misterious, large leather-bound book locked with a gold clasp and padlock. What she discovers within the pages takes her breath away and shakes her world. An exciting story about how tomorrow can change what happens today...

       The plot is very intricate with lots of twists and turns, which keep the reader turning the pages.

       My main criticism is that some parts of the book were a bit to detailed and long wich makes it boring sometimes.

       To sum, I really liked this novel despite this little criticism. I can strongly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.

The Old Man and the Sea

By: Ernest Hemingway

        I recently read “The Old Man and the Sea” written by Ernest Hemingway. This writer was born in 1899 in Oak Park, in the United States of America. He has a simple and direct style of writing. In 1954 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. In 1961 he died.

      The story begins with an old man, Santiago, having gone 84 days without catching a fish. He was a very experienced fisherman but he was without luck. On the eighty-fifth day, Santiago took his skiff into the Gulf Stream with hope that he would catch a fish. Actually he caught a big one, but it was a hard conquest. However, when he was coming home some sharks devored the fish and when he arrived home there was only the skeleton of the fish.

       In my opinion, the book show us that if we want something we have to fight until the end and never give up because it can be worth it.

       To sum up, I enjoyed this book because we can learn a lot of things that are important for our lifes. Because of that, I recommend everyone to read it.

Film Reviews...

The Theory of Everything

      I’ve seen a lot of good films but The Theory of Everything, which is a biographic, romantic and dramatic film, was a pleasant surprise.

This film is based and adapted from the book Travelling to Infinity by Jane Wilde Hawking. The plot is quite interesting because it tells Stephen Hawking´s life, the relationship with his wife, his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease and his success in Physics. In my opinion there are some excellent performances from the leading actors Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones.

      Everything in the movie amazed me, particulary the plot and the acting. In my point of view it’s a gripping story, and after all it’s a real life story, that makes us think about everything.

    In short, The Theory of Everything is an amazing film that you really shoudn’t miss. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to almost anybody.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

The Power of Electro

      I've always been a great fan of superheroes’ movies, but The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Power of Electro surprised me a lot! It is without doubt my favourite superheroes’ movie ever.

     The cast is made up of young actors with little experience. The superhero is Peter Parker, who is represented by Andrew Garfield and the villain, whose name is Electro, is represented by Jamie Foxx.

      I quite liked the film because of the cast and the fact that the film is quite funny. The special effects are superb. The entire film was thought in detail and has no errors.

     Overall, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a very funny movie with lots of action and a surprising ending! I would strongly advise it.

Blood Diamond

      Do you know that action film that is gripping from the beginning until the end? If you don’t remember the last time you saw one, I suggest Blood Diamond. A true portrait of the cruel world of diamond’s traffic that catches our attention every single minute.

      The film takes place during the Civil War in Sierra Leoa at the end of the 90’s decade. The diamonds are extracted in war zones and sold to finance the conflict and to enrich the top of the political chain.

      Blood Diamond is a very realistic plot about the dark world of political war, power and slavery well supported by the fantastic acting of Leonardo DiCaprio , Dijmon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly. The first two were nominated to the Academy Awards (Oscars) for their interpretations in this film.

      In conclusion, Blood Diamond is a very good action movie in which the suspense is present in each scene and the ending is unpredictable. No doubt, a film to see over and over again!

Forrest Gump. 1994

directed by Robert Zemeckins

       I've been wanting to watch “Forrest Gump” for a long time and now that I finally did, I can proudly say that it's one of my favourite films.

It tells the story of Forrest Gump, a low IQ man, who led a very interesting and unique life. Throughout his life, Forrest went through many adventures such as running around the USA for three years and even meeting two presidents of the USA.

       What I liked the most about this film was that there was a perfect balance between comedy and sadness. There were as much tears of joy as there were of sadness. But what made this film perfect was Tom Hanks who played Forrest Gump, he may be the only actor who could have played this iconic role.

       I would definitely recommend this film to anyone even those who think they won't like it because at the very least, you will get to see life from a different prespective and that might change you.

Maria Barbosa

       I have recently seen “Forest Gump”, a film directed by Robert Zemeckis. It's an amazing comedy-drama based on the novel with the same name and starring Tom Hanks as Forrest.

       The film begins with a man waiting on a bench for the bus. Suddenly, a lady sits next to him and he introduces himself as Forrest Gumo. Although the lady doesn't seem to care, Forrest keeps talking and starts telling her the story of his life. Some of the situations he has been through are very fascinating, such as meeting two presidents of the United States or running for three and a half years without stopping. As he tells his story, the people that sit next to him come and go. After meeting up with Jenny, his best frien and the reason why he was at the bus stop, she introduces him to a person thar changes his life.

       Although this film talks about the american culture and americam history, what really captivated me was the main character. To me, Forrest Gump represents the kindness, innocence and bravery of the human being and is a symbol of hope and forgiveness to everyone: for example, when they were under attack in Vietname, Forrest came back to save his friends and even after getting shot, he didn't stop until he found Bubba and took him to a safe place. I believe he inspires people to be a better version of themselves.

       I'd definitely recommend this classic to everyone. As the procuder Wendy Fineman said: “You laugh and cry. It does what movies are supposed to do: make you feel alive.”

Carolina Martins

       “Forrest Gump” is a 1994 American comedy-drama film. It's one of my favourite films of all time.

       Although Forrest Gump, the main character, is a low IQ man he leads a truly successful life. As a child, without even trying, he teaches Elvis Presley to dance. Later he becomes an american football star and meets the president of USA, John Kennedy. After graduation, he left for Vietnam and served his country, ending with a bullet on is back side and a medal. When they returned home, he played ping-pong and met another president of the USA, this time Richard Nixon. He opened a shrimping business and invested in a “fruit company” named Apple. Meanwhile, he never forgot his first love, Jenny, and after some trouble they end up together with a child. But, unfortunately Jenny died, and after this tragedy he spent the rest of his life dedicating himself to his son.

       This is an amazing life story with a very moving meaning, it teaches a lot about life, how it isn't as bad as we, sometimes, see it. This movie made me think how we must appreciate more the little things, because like Forrest says “(My momma always said) life was life a box of chocolate. You never know what you gonna get.”. What I liked the most about this film was the phrases like “Stupid is as stupid does”, said by Forrest. My favourite actor was Tom Hanks, because I can't think of anyone more capable of acting the way he did.

       So, I think everyone should see it, because it has a very strong message, that could help us a lot in life. I will see it again.

Joana Santos

       One of the most intriguing movies I have ever seen is “Forest Gump”, a movie made in 1994 and directed by Robert Zemeckins. This movie is based on the novel with the same name by Winston Groom, and stars Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump.

       This movie tells us the life story of Forrest Gump, a slow-witted, innocent, kindhearted and very athletic man born in Alabama. Throughout his life, Forrest Gump witnesses and sometimes takes part, in a lot of important events that occurred during the 20th century. Although in the beginning of the movie Forrest can't walk, when he finally does, he shows everyone what he is capable of without even noticing it. He wins an American Football scholarship, he goes to Vietnam, and after saving a lot of his friends, and losing some, he wins the Medal of Honor. He also becomes a national ping-pong champion, and plays ping-pong to the wounded souldiers of Vietnam war. Later, he buys himself a shrimp boat and becomes a shrimp boat captain in honour of his friend Bubba. The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company get's very successful and after getting shares in a new “fruit company” named Apple, he becomes a millionaire. Then he runs across America for three years and when he finally gets home, he marries Jenny, his childhood friend.

       This story has a very strong message, because it says that you don't need a great IQ to be the best in whatever you want, and make an impact in a lot of people's lives. Besides, it tells us that no matter how bad the situation seams, if we hold on to what we believe, there is always hope. As Forrest's mother always said “life is like a box of chocolate, you'll never know what you'll get”, and if something comes in our way we have to get through it.

       I'd recommend this movie and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
